Partnering with the Garfield Park Garden Network

All fresh produce sold at the Market is hyper-locally sourced from the Garfield Park Garden Network, a coalition of 32 growing spaces spanning three acres of land in Garfield Park. Garden Network growers pool their harvested produce, and proceeds from sales help maintain and expand local gardens and urban farms.

In 2018, more than 800 individuals visited the market, purchasing nearly 1,600 lbs. of produce, valued at $1,250 in cash sales and $550 in senior and WIC coupons, and an estimated $600 in LINK and other benefits. The Garden Network and Market distributed thousands more pounds of fresh produce to volunteers and neighbors.

The Garfield Park Neighborhood Market and the Garfield Park Garden Network are facilitated by the Garfield Park Community Council.

Garfield Park Neighborhood Market

The Garfield Park Neighborhood Market, which began in 2012 on the vacant lot that now houses The Hatchery Chicago, is an official City of Chicago farmers’ market and one of the City’s most unique markets.

A welcoming space for the food and beverage community

Additional Market vendors include local restaurants and food businesses, gardens selling value-added products such as pickles and jams, coffee companies, and community resources. Other offerings include nutrition education programs with healthcare providers and cooking demos by local chefs.

The Market also serves as a gathering space and features local entertainment by spoken word artists and musicians. The Market accepts LINK benefits and LINK Double Value incentives as well as senior and WIC coupons, ensuring that neighbors of all income levels are able to access fresh locally-sourced food.

Neighborhood Market Days

Neighborhood Market days, which are held on select seasonal days at the corner of Lake and Kedzie, promote job training events and Hatchery membership directly to residents in the Community.

If you are interested in being a vendor at the Garfield Park Neighborhood Market at The Hatchery, you can learn more and apply with the Garfield Park Community Council.
