ICNC works to strengthen the companies in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor on Chicago's Near West Side. In addition to representing and providing assistance to hundreds of companies in its community, ICNC owns and operates Make City, a small business incubator which houses 100 small business tenants in its 416,000 square foot facility.

ICNC also co-owns The Hatchery, a food and beverage manufacturing incubator in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood which assists food & beverage entrepreneurs grow their businesses. This facility is a one-stop-shop aiming to solve three major challenges in the industry: access to production space, financing, and resources.

POSITION ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kitchen Facility Assistant ensures the commercial retail kitchens run smoothly by maintaining a safe, clean, and friendly work environment for our kitchen tenants. This person will be a quick learner that is comfortable in a fast-paced environment with constant change and also passionate and excited about helping entrepreneurs grow their food and beverage businesses. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen Support

  • Helping to manage and enforce kitchen SOPs within the facility for both private and shared kitchens
  • Supporting tenants in maintaining cleanliness in main shared kitchen; including daily cleaning of dish room and equipment along with general cleaning like sweeping, mopping, and handling trash/recycling and deep cleaning as scheduled
  • Checking tenants out of kitchen stations and verifying cleanliness after each use
  • Allocating storage equipment rentals as needed and ensuring a clean and safe storage environment for tenants
  • Recording any and all-important activities as they relate to Food Safety and facility maintenance
  • Upholding health and safety regulations in accordance with local, state, and federal law by following standard operating procedures and policies
  • Proactively addressing tenant needs as they arise and promptly responding to kitchen tenant inquiries
  • Completing daily checklists, managing storage supplies and performing other kitchen-related tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience working in commercial kitchen environment
  • Must have Food Managers Certification including City of Chicago Food Service Sanitation Certificate (or able to obtain within 60 days of employment)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with co-workers and kitchen tenants
  • Able to work independently, without direct supervision, and take ownership of the environment in which you work.
  • Flexibility in learning new things and has an eye for detail
  • Must be able to lift up-to 50 pounds

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understand food service chemicals, operating and troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment
  • Ability to use basic hand tools for basic kitchen repairs such as hanging shelves, painting, etc.
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role
  • Ability to effectively use computers and technology

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires spending most of the day walking around the Hatchery food incubator and the surrounding area and standing for long periods of time.  Lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), bending and walking is required daily

POSITION STRUCTURE & BENEFITS INCENTIVES

  • This is a full-time position; Monday-Friday, some evening, weekends, & holidays required; this position is ineligible to work remote.
  • Shifts are: 7:00AM – 3:30pm or 10:00 AM to 6:30PM
  • Starting hourly range is $16-19, commensurate with experience
