Liliana Zarnowiecki is The Hatchery’s Administrative Assistant.
She grew up in the Chicagoland suburbs but hopes she is an official Chicagoan after ten years of living, working, and falling in love with neighborhoods like Pilsen, Back of the Yards, and Humboldt Park.
After a start in political science and Italian at Marquette University and moving to elementary education and English at Northeastern University, she finally realized the perfect fusion of her loves of advocacy, community building, and helping others learn could find a home in social work.
She is happiest when helping her fellow Chicagoans, and has been on the Associate Board at Lincoln Park Community Services since 2013. She also teaches yoga and knitting there, and you might see her riding to volunteer on her yarn-covered bike!
Professionally, Liliana has spent the past several years at her family’s company, Consumers Vinegar & Spice, as the Quality Control Project Manager. She built their Quality Control program from the ground up. She hopes to use her food safety background and nonprofit passion to help The Hatchery grow into their new facility, and beyond.
So far, she has brought in homemade pickles on her first Monday, and monarch caterpillars on her second… So if her love of produce, pollinators, and helping people is any indication, she is in the perfect place!
