Susan Gornell, Brand Builder & Creative Strategist, PepsiCo
Susan seeks to build brands that bring joy, beauty, health and pleasure into people’s daily lives. She applies three basic principles to branding—empathy, altruism and integrity
Susan is a seasoned strategic branding designer who specializes in consumer, entertainment and luxury goods. Her work is often inspired by her early-career stint in the world of numismatics at the Smithsonian Museum. With over 20 years in the advertising and branding industry, Susan has held director and supervisory roles for the majority of her career. She is a strategically-based, concept-driven, hands-on Creative Director who has extensive experience with corporate, consumer and business-to-business brands. She has helped develop such brands as Grand Marnier, Godiva, Mars inc, Boots of London, Starbucks, Creative Artist Agency (CAA), Democratic National Committee, Michelle Obama and Ruffino.
Presently, she oversees PepsiCo’s Better For You portfolio of snacks including SunChips, Smartfood, Stacy’s Pita Chips and many more. Susan has redefined how new and heritage brands can connect deeply with their consumers in a more compelling way by creating proprietary methodologies around empathy, insights, purpose and design to drive deeper engagement.
