Understanding Clean Label: Marketing, Sourcing and Ingredients

Drawing on deep consumer and manufacturer research, this talk addresses what “clean label” and “simple label” really means for consumers, how the two terms differ, and how we can most effectively market them. Our presenters will also provide some perspective on what is means for an entrepreneur to source these ingredients with several key examples.
About the presenters:
Evan Hyman has a unique view on the Food and Beverage industry, with over 20 years of experience having worked from the ingredients to retail finished products. Currently, Evan is the Director, Emerging Business at Ingredion Incorporated where he is tasked with driving Ingredion’s engagement with the Emerging Business sector. Prior to this, Evan led Ingredion’s Sales Development function in North America where he led a team focused on driving sales of new ingredients in the North American market. Prior to joining Ingredion, Evan served as General Manager, Marketing and Business Planning at Mitsui Foods, leading marketing, strategy and business development initiatives. He has also held brand marketing and business development positions with Pepperidge Farm, Schick, Daymon Worldwide and Mitsubishi International Corporation. Evan holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science/East Asian studies from Union College, in Schenectady, New York, and a master’s degree in business administration with a focus in marketing and competitive and organizational strategy from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester.
Pat O’Brien is Ingredion‘s Senior Marketing Manager for the Wholesome Springboard. In his role, Pat is responsible for providing leadership for the Wholesome Springboard in the United States and Canada, including supporting sales development for the region, leading cross-functional teams to execute against business plans, leading business development initiatives at key target customers and participating in key customer engagements. Pat joined the company in 2007 and has held roles of increasing responsibility in the areas of marketing and business development. Pat holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a major in food marketing, from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
